The much-anticipated Season 2 of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel arrives on Prime Video this week, and fan speculation has been rampant.
The first season introduces a diverse group of characters residing in Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds with musical numbers about their clashes, and establishes tense rivalries and emotional bonds that drive audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for the new season differ greatly, but certain threads emerge over and over: Will Angel Dust escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with audience demands as the main goal," the showrunner stated earlier this year. "But I believe that me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator reveals her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That might mean fans have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how quickly season 2 moves, and how much of what they're waiting for happens now.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we get some incredible reveals, some really cool origin tales, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — particularly in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a few fans make a bingo card about the new season," she says. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've actually done some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on Prime Video on October 29.
