Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the city.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of characters who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
Per the DM, the warrior group is for players who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might appear unsuited, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the team knows exactly where to head next after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise started the campaign’s events—used the foes for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, assaulting the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.
The traitor then settled his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each character has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the companion and best friend, seeks revenge.
- Kattigan knows the northern area and warns that it is a hostile environment.
- The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their status as key figures in the powerful family could help the party enter areas they usually can’t.
- Additionally, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:
- The rogue and The character are known criminals.
- The warrior and The cleric defied the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The target is wanted dead by the family.
This results in them no alternative but to head to the northern region in quest for the traitor.
What’s Next?
According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Seekers and Schemers tables.
